Aptos is an independent, high-performance Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Layer 1 project focused on delivering a secure and scalable Layer 1 blockchain globally. The Aptos blockchain leverages the Move programming language and Move virtual machine for application development, creating and optimizing blockchain use cases.
The team comprises original authors, researchers, designers, and builders from Diem, one of the earliest blockchains built for this purpose. (Meta-affiliated projects Aptos, Sui, and Linera share similar backgrounds, technologies, and capital structures.)
APT is the native token of this public chain, used for paying transaction fees, staking, and governance.
Aptos launched its Devnet in mid-March and introduced an incentivized testnet in late May, with the mainnet targeted for launch in the third quarter.
