BitBay was founded in Katowice in 2014. With a focus on finance and technology, BitBay has achieved international success with its headquarters in the Polish capital. It is the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Poland and will become the first international Bitcoin exchange operating in the Indian cryptocurrency market.
According to Coinmarketcap, BitBay holds the largest volume of BTC/PLN trading. BitBay’s 24-hour trading volume is around $8.35 million, which represents 0.26% of the global Bitcoin trading volume. BitBay CEO Sylwester Suszek said, "We are the largest exchange in Eastern and Central Europe, with over 200,000 users. Since our start in 2014, we currently rank 10th in the world."
BitBay Exchange Development
BitBay exchange was established in Katowice in 2014. Bitbay aimed to create what was missing in the Polish market — a professional and intuitive platform for trading Bitcoin and Litecoin. Bitbay CEO Sylwester Suszek’s financial experience was instrumental from the very beginning. He had previously co-founded two large companies in the financial sector before establishing a powerful Bitcoin exchange with his partners.
The second version of the BitBay platform was launched in 2015. The BitBay trading system was improved to become more user-friendly and the first batch of professional trading tools appeared. BitBay added new cryptocurrencies, such as Ethereum or Lisk. At that time, BitBay’s team grew from 14 to 31 employees. Meanwhile, BitBay was already planning international expansion and opened a second office in Amsterdam.
In early 2016, BitBay started using the BitBay 3.0 platform. The BitBay team had grown to 70 members by that time. New products, such as Bitcoin payments, also came into being.
In 2017, BitBay announced that it would be launching a trading platform for the Indian cryptocurrency market. BitBay will be the first cryptocurrency exchange to offer trading in altcoins, such as Ethereum, Litecoin, Lisk, Monero, Dash, and GameCredits, to provide both buyers and sellers.
In May 2018, BitBay decided to suspend trading activities in Poland. At the same time, BitBay will be operated by a new provider from the Republic of Malta, which is more crypto-friendly.
