BitClout is a new social network built from the ground up with a custom blockchain that allows users to leverage their influence and monetize content. Its architecture is similar to Bitcoin but has greater scalability and throughput, better supporting complex social media data like posts, profiles, followers, speculative predictions, and more. Like Bitcoin, BitClout is a fully open-source project with no company behind it, only tokens and code.
BitClout Token
The BitClout blockchain has its native token called BitClout, which users can use for various operations on the platform, including purchasing a novel asset known as "Creator Coins," as described below.
What Are Creator Coins?
Each user profile on the platform has a unique token that anyone can buy or sell, known as "Creator Coins," which are automatically generated when you create your profile. The price of these coins rises with increased buying and falls with increased selling.
Purposes of Creator Coins
Creator Coins represent a new type of asset associated with personal reputation rather than companies or commodities, serving as the first tool that enables trading social influence as an asset. In essence, someones coin should be closely tied to their social influence. For example, if Elon Musk successfully sends the first human to Mars, his coins value would theoretically rise. Conversely, if he makes inappropriate comments during a press conference, his coins value should fall. This way, people can invest in someone by purchasing their coins, betting on their potential and receiving financial returns once they prove their worth and achieve success. Traders can also profit from buying and selling based on fluctuations.
There are many exciting directions and opportunities for Creator Coins, and we hope to integrate them soon, such as:
- Stakeholder Meetings: Creators can allow only users holding a certain amount of their coin to rate their posts. This means anyone wishing to comment on a creators content must establish a connection by purchasing their coin. Such connections significantly reduce spam and create substantial demand for the users coin. Imagine Elon Musk or Chamath hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session with a minimum coin holding threshold or answering questions based on the number of coins held by users.
- Premium Messaging: Most creators receive a lot of spam in their social media inboxes. On the BitClout platform, creators can limit messaging to those who hold a specific amount of their coin or prioritize messages from users holding more coins. Alternatively, they can charge a fee in coins to open their inbox, increasing coin demand while filtering out spam.
- Sponsored Posts: Creators can have an inbox where anyone can "bid" to have their content reposted (also known as "reposted"). Imagine being able to have Kim Kardashian repost your fashion brand by directly sending a request to her inbox, with payment upon repost. These bids can also be made using Creator Coins, further increasing demand for the coin.
- Premium Content: Users holding a certain amount of a creators coin can access special content, or people may need to pay a monthly subscription fee in Creator Coins to access premium content.
- Distribution and Engagement Models: Creators can use their coins to distribute scarce resources to their largest holders. For example, imagine a celebrity choosing to have lunch with their largest coin holders on a specific date. Or, they could gift 1,000 signed posters to their top 1,000 coin holders. These are just the beginning of how creators can engage with fans using their coins, and all these ideas will significantly increase demand for these coins.
- Commercialized Likes: Likes can be imagined as purchases of Creator Coins. There is a cost to liking, but in return, you receive the Creator Coin of the person you liked (effectively creating a shortcut to purchasing the coin directly linked to their content). Similar features can serve as an effective signal for higher quality content.
