MTP is an IPFS file storage system, a peer-to-peer distributed file system, and a hypertext transfer protocol. It connects computing devices that all share the same file management model. In a sense, this concept is similar to the original idea of the Web; however, in practice, MTP functions more like a group of individual BitTorrent users forwarding Git objects. MTP has the potential to become a subsystem of the internet and, with proper configuration, can complement or even replace traditional HTTP transfer protocols.
