The Nervos Network is an open-source ecosystem of public blockchain protocols.
Nervos CKB (Common Knowledge Base) is the first-layer public blockchain protocol of the Nervos Network, based on Proof of Work (PoW). It enables arbitrary cryptographic assets to gain security, stability, and permissionlessness, while supporting smart contracts, second-layer scalability solutions, and through its "value storage" cryptographic economic design, native token CKBytes capture the value of the entire network.
The CKByte (CKB) token is the native token of the network and serves the following purposes:
- Network State Storage: CKB represents cell capacity in bytes, enabling token holders to occupy a portion of the blockchains global state. For example, if a user owns 1,000 CKBs, they can create a cell with a capacity of 1,000 bytes or multiple cells whose combined capacity is 1,000 bytes. They can then use these 1,000 bytes to store assets, application states, or other types of common knowledge.
- Miner Compensation: Miners are rewarded with block rewards and transaction fees in the form of CKB tokens.
- Staking Rewards: CKB holders can deposit and lock their native tokens into a special contract called NervosDAO to earn staking rewards.
